13 Cool Tools to Make Life Easy

Share
Haven't blogged for a bit, so getting back on track with some practical tools (both online and offine) to make your life easy. Don't worry I am not going to advice you to wear loincloth like Gandhiji, or throw away your mobile, delete your Email and Social Network Accounts, sorry Typical Zen Teachers. I will share only those ideas which helped me to simplify my life, spare me if I can't maintain any logical sequence as I am writing whichever is coming to my mind. Enough for intro, here goes the list-

1. Sticky Notes:
If you are a reminder freak like me, sticky note is a must have for you. It's a simple strips of colorful pads with adhesive at one end. You can write anything you want to be reminded on it and stick it to your computer table, wall, door, freeze anywhere you want. (If you want stickies on your desktop use the software Stickies)

2. Evernote:

If you love living online. You must be needing a place where you can clip anything interesting you find online, and store it for further reference. Evernote is the best note taking software available. You can clip part of the page including text, images, and url of the page very easily, using bookmarklet, browser extensions.
[Most interesting feature: Text inside images are also searchable! ]

3. Handsfree:

Sometimes I want to give credit to the person who named it. It really keeps our hands free for more important work. I love using bluetooth handsfree more, it's more hady less wiry. It enables me to take note while talking on phone. I can also E-mail or SMS if the caller needs any information/document. It also helps me to talk while traveling by transport.

4. Speed Dial:

Go to your mobile setting now, and set your frequently dialed number as Speed Dial, so that you can call the person just pressing single key.

It will save bit of time to open contacts and search for the particular contact.

5. Scheduler:

I know, I know you got puzzled up managing your Personal & Professional meetings schedule. Why don't you use your Calender/Scheduler of your phone. You can also add reminders for your events. If you want your reminders to appear on your PC/Laptop synchronize your mobile with Microsoft Outlook. If you want to sync your calender online use Google Calender Sync.

[Extra Advantage:  Your contacts also got backed up in Microsoft Outlook, so if you accidentally lose your contact, you don't have to loose your friends or your peace of mind]

6. Card Holder:

If your work involves keeping contact of important persons, you may need a cardholder to keep all important business cards at one place. I use a separate card holder to keep my Debit/Credit cards too.

7. Missed Call Alert: If you are losing your personal life to attend important calls all day, if you can't switch off your mobile phone for the fear of losing important calls, subscribe to Missed Call Alert today, so that you receive missed call alert after switching the phone on,even if your phone been switched off. In that way you can take uninterrupted time for yourself and your family.

8. Clean Inbox:

I know all those wanted and unwanted emails in your inbox makes you crazy, so why don't you archive all mails now, unsubscribe  from all unwanted Newstellers and make it a habit from now on to archive all mails after reading, in that way, your inbox will remain clean, and you won't miss a single mail. You can use two levels like me "Read It Later" & "Followup" to archive mails which you want to read later and need to answer respectively. (Got this idea from Zen Habits)

9. Xpenser:

Nothing troubles us more than having spent all we earned but forgetting where we spent it. So you can make a habit of keeping track of your expenses with this free tool. You can use its website, or mail or Twitter (like 'd xpn Dinner 1000' ) to record your expenses.

10. RescueTime:

You know regret can kill. You started using Internet may be for learning or may be to promote your business or something worthwhile, but at the end of the month, you think "What the hell was I doing all month? I had done nothing!" So start tracking every activity whenever you are online with this free  tool.

11. Hootsuite:

If you love making friends, or searching info online, or networking with professionals or building your brands you are definitely using Social Media. And until now you may be totally overwhelmed by the number of social media sites you have registered to. Hootsuite can help you managing all important Social Media sites like Twitter, Facebook, Facebook Fan Page, MySpace, LinkedIn, Foursquare with a single dashboard. You can read update of your connections, reply, share links or files and lots more. Read Hootusite Blog for details.

12. Shaving Kit:

Until few months back, I used to lose my peace of mind while packing for my trips. I had great difficulty finding My Shaving Brush, Cream, Razor, mirror, comb, scissors and tooth-paste, tooth brush etc. And the trouble used to get doubled while returning from the hotel I was staying for the trip. Then I decided to use a Shaving Kit, and keeping all these important things in that kit bag always, so that while packing, I had to just pack the kit. (Okay Ladies, I know this tips was not for you, but you can use a Make Up Bag for organizing your important things.)

13. Online Account List:

I got this advice from Laura Rauder in her online course The Dash. Keep a spreadshit for all your online accounts, storing username, password and url of the service. You can understand importance of this advice after using internet for long.

Update (8th July 2011): Better alternative is to use Laspass
